All summer, while finishing up at work, packing our things, driving across the country, and unpacking our things, I kept looking forward to the quiet weeks after moving in and before having a baby. I am happy to report that we are enjoying those weeks every bit as much as I intended to.
This past week or so we continued to explore our new neighborhood and community and have been happily surprised by what a happening place our new town is. Already we’ve been to an arts and crafts show in the park and several farmer’s markets, and we’ve discovered that there’s almost always something going on downtown if we venture in on a weekend. We visited one the many nearby state forests where I was happy to discover loads of wildflowers and blackberries and where Charley enjoyed some off-leash romping.
We celebrated Philip’s birthday on the 8th, and I made the most scrumptious chocolate cake of my baking career. It involved plenty of butter, sour cream, and coffee, and it may have to become his standard birthday cake.

In a few minutes we’re off to town for an appointment with the midwife and a trip to Target. On the docket for the evening is oatmeal bread, corn chowder, knitting (I’m going great guns on my Icelandic sweater!), and the last episode of Endeavour.
